About
My name is Aidan Church. I’m 19 and currently studying Computer Science at University College Dublin. I will be commencing my third (Junior) year in September. I’m a lover of rugby and music. My interest in technology originally came from playing games as a child. When I was about 12 or 13 I began designing HTML / CSS websites. At 14 I constructed my first machine. It is a AMD3200+ , 1GB DDR machine which is still in use today! I became interested in servers at about 16 and began sshing into a Ubuntu box which a friend of mine owned for hosting game servers.
I’m currently working in the CLARITY center in University College Dublin creating an Augmented Reality engine for my project “Recommending Tweets with Augmented Reality” under supervision of Dr.Kevin McCarthy and Prof.Barry Smyth . I was UCD’s Internet and computing Societies Head System Administrator from 2009 / 2010 and I’m currently serving as the societies Auditor. I also volunteer as a System Administrator at UCD’s Open Source Labs. Our primary goal is to provide hosting and VM’s for Open Source projects.
My area’s of interest include Ubiquitous Computing particularly Android and mobile development, Networks / Telecommunications and more recently Graphics (OpenGL). In my spare time I enjoy running and socialising. I also freelance as a Web Developer. I can be found on Twitter , Facebook as well as idling in #android-dev, #java and a few others on freenode.
